Crosstown Trail Inaugural Ride

Sunday, June 2, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

FREE

The Crosstown Trail is a route connecting San Francisco neighborhoods, open spaces, and other major trails. It runs from Candlestick Point in the Southeast corner of the city to Lands End in the northwest corner of the city. The route is usable by both pedestrians and bicyclists, connects many parks, business districts, residential areas, and public transit.

The Crosstown Trail is just one part of the city’s Green Connections Plan. It is one of the first to be concretely mapped and made available to the public Be one of the first to ride the route!

We’ll meet next to the restrooms in the southeastern part of Candlestick State Recreation Area, the southeastern most corner of the city, at 10:00 am. Link to pinned location. Then, we’ll ride across San Francisco! You’ll see Candlestick, Visitation Valley (including the Visitation Valley Greenway), McLaren Park, St Mary’s Park, the Glen Park neighborhood, Laguna Honda Community Trails, Golden Gate Heights, and more. The ride will end at Lands End.

This is true “mixed terrain”–some trails (mostly mild), roads ranging from freshly paved to not-so-freshly-paved, and paved pathways. There’s even some stairways, though there are always alternates to avoid the stairs. Any type of bike will work for this ride, although a dirt-capable bike will make the ride enjoyable.

Distance is about 17 miles and just over 2000′ of elevation gained.

Bring a water bottle and snacks. There will be breaks but no designated food stops. We hope to meet the groups who will be hiking the Crosstown Trail for lunch. The ride will be at a social pace.
