WEIGH IN ON THE FUTURE OF BIKE SHARE IN SF

In less than 24 hours the Board of Supervisors will be discussing the idea of a city-owned and operated bike share system. This is our first opportunity to support a municipal bike share system that is affordable and accessible to all San Franciscans.

Since it was first introduced, the SF Bicycle Coalition has supported bike share. Most importantly, we believe a successful bike share system is one that is accessible and affordable to all. In 2015, the SF Bicycle Coalition started the Bike Share for All campaign to push for a more equitable bike share system. In partnership with other bicycle advocacy organizations across the Bay Area we won low-income membership programs, equitable geographic service areas, and local hiring commitments written into the contracts with bike share companies.

Today, Lyft is the sole company operating bike share in San Francisco and the original vision for Bike Share for All is far off.

As we continue to see prices go up and ridership decline under the current for-profit bike share model, it is imperative to support bold ideas like a city-owned and operated system.

A municipal bike share system can make biking accessible to all San Franciscans, compliment public transportation, and get us closer to our climate change goals of 80% sustainable modes by 2030.

In order to make it happen we need your support today! Write a letter of support to the Board of Supervisors by 5pm today or call in to the Government, Audit, and Oversight committee this Thursday (2/17) at 10 AM to give public comment.
