Kate’s Story: From NorCal to World Champion*
Thursday, March 7, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join us the evening of Thursday, March 7, for a special benefit event with mountain biker Kate Courtney, winner of the 2018 Elite XC World Championship. Kate is making this appearance at Marin Museum of Bicycling to help raise funds for the Museum’s expansion project.
Kate grew up here in Marin, enjoying tandem rides on Mt. Tam with her dad. As a high school freshman she joined the mountain bike team, loved the sport, won her first race, and never looked back. Her talent, dedicated training and sheer love of riding have made her the most successful athlete to emerge from NICA High School Mountain Bike racing. She is the first American in 17 years to win an Elite XC World Championship.
The first US Junior woman to win a UCI XC World Cup, Kate is a 12-time US National Champion. In 2017 she was National XC Champion, won four Under 23 World Cups and earned the Under 23 Overall World Cup title. Along the way she graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology.
Kate raced for Specialized Bicycles from 2013 through 2018 and now rides for Scott-SRAM MTB Racing, as a teammate of Nino Schurter, seven-time Men’s XC World Champion. This year, she will be targeting the World Cup series with an eye towards the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Kate’s motto: “Work hard, do what you love and believe anything is possible.” Kate has a story to inspire each of us, whatever our dreams and goals. As we work to sustain and grow the museum, her words inspire us. We could not be more grateful to Kate, and to you, our valued community supporters, for making the evening of March 7 a truly special event at the museum.
Tickets can be purchased in advance through Eventbrite and at the museum (Thursdays-Sundays, 11-5). Members of the Marin Museum of Bicycling receive a discount. To become a member or renew, go to mmbhof.org. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door the evening of the event. Advance purchase is recommended. All proceeds support the Marin Museum of Bicycling’s expansion project.
***Doors open at 6:15 PM. Seating is limited, and advance tickets do not reserve seats, so please arrive early to get your seat and to enjoy museum displays. Snacks and refreshments will be available***
