For over 50 years, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition has been transforming San Francisco streets and neighborhoods into more livable and safe places by promoting the bicycle for everyday transportation. We are one of the largest and most effective bicycle advocacy groups in the country. Through our day-to-day advocacy, education and working partnerships with City and community agencies, the SF Bicycle Coalition creates safer streets and more livable communities for all San Franciscans.
Our History
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is one of the oldest bicycle advocacy organizations in the country. Our organization was founded in 1971 by a group of activists representing a coalition of environmental and neighborhood groups. We quickly evolved into a powerful alliance of individuals working for a more bicycle-friendly city. The SF Bicycle Coalition has been dominated by a grassroots volunteer ethic ever since, growing into one of the strongest bicycle advocacy organizations in the country.
Staff and Board
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors and the day to day work is implemented by a team of dedicated staff. We represent our members at City Hall and on the streets. Our effective advocacy is supported by volunteers and interns. Learn more about our team and how you can get involved.
