Napa Valley Film Festival screening of ‘Afghan Cycles’*

Saturday, November 10, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

$25

Join the Napa Valley Film Festival for the Napa Valley premiere of ‘Afghan Cycles,’ a documentary film directed by Sarah Menzies.

‘Afghan Cycles’ follows members of the National Cycling Team in Kabul and a group of women who use mountain bikes to commute to school and run errands. For all of them, the bicycle is a symbol of freedom — freedom comes at a dangerously high cost. ‘Afghan Cycles’ uses the bicycle to tell a story of women’s rights — human rights — and the daily struggles faced by Afghan women, from discrimination and abuse, to the oppressive silencing of their voices in contemporary society. These women ride despite cultural barriers, lack of infrastructure, and repeated death threats, embracing the power and freedom that comes with the sport.
