San Francisco Climate Action Plan Workshop: Climate & Resilience*
Thursday, February 18, 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Event Navigation
The City and County of San Francisco invites you to a virtual public workshop to learn about San Francisco’s updated Climate Action Plan and how it can support the City’s goals for community resilience, which refers to the ability to recover from natural or man-made changes that impact our communities. Attendees will have an opportunity to share feedback, concerns, and priorities on the draft strategies and actions.
No need to have a background in climate issues – whether you are joining the conversation for the first time, or have attended past events, we invite all San Francisco community members to participate.
Workshop Overview:
The workshop will feature keynote speaker, Brian Strong, Chief Resilience Officer, City and Country of San Francisco, who will discuss the Hazards and Climate Resilience Plan (HCR), San Francisco’s blueprint to better understand and address the impacts of both sudden and slower-moving disasters on City infrastructure and communities. The HCR, which proposes strategies to address risks such as earthquakes, also points to ways for San Francisco to adapt to the unavoidable impacts of climate change.
Following this presentation, City staff will provide an overview of the updated Climate Action Plan. You’ll learn about the climate action planning and development process and how the new plan aims to address other critical issues, including economic recovery, racial and social equity, and public health.
The second half of the workshop will include small group discussions focused on reviewing a selection of the draft strategies and actions with a focus on how climate action projects support the resilience of San Francisco communities. The project team will lead structured conversations to hear your ideas and get feedback on how the City can achieve its aggressive climate goals, without leaving anyone behind.
The workshop will be held via Zoom, an online video/audio conferencing platform. We encourage you to join from a personal computer, tablet, or smartphone with an internet connection, as that will help you see the presentation. There is also an option to join by phone only if internet access is not available.
By registering and attending this free workshop, you’ll automatically be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a $100 gift card. Register soon to reserve your space! This workshop is offered by the San Francisco Department of the Environment.
