Sunday, July 19, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

This on-bike class will focus on the bike-handling skills you need to safely and confidently ride in urban traffic. The class will be conducted in a car-free space, and is the second in the Smart City Cycling sequence. Smart City Cycling 1: Classroom or Intro to Urban Bicycling is a prerequisite for this course. If you have not already taken it, you can register for Smart City Cycling 1 here, and for Smart City Cycling 2 below.

Topics covered include:

  • How to ride with one hand in order to signal
  • Scanning over one’s shoulder while maintaining a straight line
  • Crash-avoidance maneuvers

This class will prepare you for Smart City Cycling 3: Road Practice, in which you will take your new skills out to streets.

A bicycle and helmet are required for this class. Bikes will not be available to rent at the class.

At this time, this class is limited to people 18 years old and above.

COVID-19 protocols: We will be following the protocols laid out by SFDPH here during this class, including temperature checks, face coverings, social distancing, and reduced class sizes. Masks, gloves, wipes, and hand sanitizer will be available at the class.

Please contact Eliana Marcus-Tyler (eliana@sfbike.org or ‪415-409-9416‬) with any questions about this program.

This class is part of the SFMTA’s Bicycle Safety Education program, presented in partnership with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. It is made possible by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority through a grant of Proposition K Local Transportation Sales Tax Funds.
