This year was our biggest yet. With the help of more than 20 volunteers, we distributed 101 bikes — our highest number ever at a single event. A new onsite drawing system gave families who hadn’t signed up beforehand, or who didn’t win in the initial bike giveaway, another chance to take home a bike. Nearly 30 bikes were distributed this way and met with shouts of excitement. One volunteer told us that handing a child her very first bike brought tears to his eyes, a reminder that the impact runs both ways.
The day came together through powerful partnerships. YBike, a consistent supporting partner, not only donated the helmets, but also volunteered alongside us. San Francisco Safe Routes to School helped kids get rolling in a Learn-to-Ride course, where first-time riders were welcomed.
This work was also made possible thanks to Redwood Credit Union. Their $8,000 grant, paired with a matching campaign that generated an additional $3,400 from SFBike members, directly supported Bike It Forward and made BMAGIC’s record-breaking year possible. We were also fortunate to receive generous donations of new high-quality kids’ bikes from local companies. BMAGIC 2025 was a reminder of what happens when our community comes together: families, partners, donors, and volunteers each play their part in creating a space where kids can roll into the school year with joy and confidence.
