This morning, a man was hit and killed while biking on 16th Street and South Van Ness Avenue. We at the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition are deeply saddened by this morning’s tragic crash, and our hearts go out to his family and friends.

At this point we do not know anything more than what was reported by the media. We are awaiting further news from the police, who have said they will issue a press release with more details to come.

As advocates working for safer San Francisco streets, we take deaths and injuries on our streets very seriously. To that end, we will be reviewing the details of the crash and the location to understand what actions, if any, can be taken to prevent these kinds of crashes. And we will continue our strong push to build safe, welcoming bikeways that connect our city for everyone.
