A single vote on October 15 will determine the fate of Market Street for the next generation and beyond. After a decade of advocacy, the project that’s ready to be approved will include a complete transformation of San Francisco’s most important street, including fully protected bike lanes as well as a clear message: get cars off of Market Street.
For more than a decade, your SF Bicycle Coalition and our members have been working with City staff on designs for a new Market Street. Finally, in two weeks, the SF Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board of Directors will decide whether to approve protected bike lanes and car restrictions on Market Street from the Embarcadero to Octavia. This project is our once-in-a-generation opportunity to overhaul our most important downtown corridor, and this is our one shot to get this project approved. For our city, for our environment and for our safety, for Market Street we need to make noise and win this vote on October 15.
Rally for Market Street
Tuesday October 15, 12:15PM
City Hall Steps
On October 15, we will rally on the steps of City Hall to make our demands for Market clear: this project needs to happen and it needs to happen now. Once we’ve heard from City leaders, we’ll head into the SFMTA Board meeting and pack the room to make sure they approve this project unanimously.
No more waiting for life-saving improvements and no more excuses about getting cars off of Market. The time is now for Market Street and we need to act.
