San Francisco Bicycle Coalition Community Agreement

San Francisco Bicycle Coalition Community Agreement

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition strives to create a positive and supportive environment where all people feel welcomed, seen, celebrated, and treated equitably, in line with our Strategic Plan Core Values of Transportation Justice, Sustainability, People Power, and Joy.  As a member of this community, we value your participation in keeping our digital and in-person community, spaces, and events safe and welcoming.

These are our expectations of staff, Board Members, members, interns, volunteers, and visitors entering any San Francisco Bicycle Coalition space or event:

  • We approach each other with empathy and care.
  • We ask for and use each other’s pronouns.
  • We respect every person’s autonomy by seeking consent before physical contact and offering before we help or explain.
  • We take responsibility for our own participation and create space for the participation of others.
  • We are aware of the impact of our words and actions and that good intentions can have negative impacts; microaggressions, including unintended ones, are harmful and we seek to eliminate them.
  • We let someone know when we have been hurt and we try to forgive.
  • We do our best to fulfill these agreements, we hold one another accountable to fulfilling them, and we work to correct mistakes.

Staff members are always available for support with an issue, or answering any questions about appropriate behavior. If you notice someone feeling hurt or uncomfortable, please check in with them or staff. Thank you for helping keep our space safe, supportive, and fun!

Digital Community Agreements

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition strives to create a positive and supportive environment where all people feel welcomed, seen, celebrated, and treated equitably, in line with our Strategic Plan Core Values of Transportation Justice, Sustainability, People Power, and Joy. We are eager for you to engage in online conversation with us and others in the @sfbike community. We aim to create a space where thoughts, perspectives, and debate can be voiced honestly, respectfully, and courteously.

By participating in our social media channels, you agree to abide by the following guidelines and values:

Be kind and respectful. Remember that there are humans on the other side of the screen. Disagreeing and debating are welcome, but avoid personal attacks.

Refrain from hate speech, bullying, and degrading language. Making others feel unsafe is no way to get your point across. Name-calling, threats, cursing, or any language that degrades people because of their race, religion, culture, age, (dis)ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other aspect of their identity will not be tolerated.

Speak for yourself, not for others. Nobody likes to have words put in their mouth; likewise, nobody wants their personal business aired without their permission. Please don’t assume you know others’ thoughts, and please respect people’s privacy.

Stay on topic. We welcome your responses to our posts, but please keep your comments relevant to that conversation.

Spam and promotions belong elsewhere. This is a space to discuss biking and other transportation issues in SF; please don’t engage in commercial activities or spamming here.

These guidelines are meant to foster civil discussion in which all may feel safe participating. Any posts that do not abide by these guidelines and values may be deleted at the sole discretion of the SF Bicycle Coalition. We reserve the right to block the violator’s account(s). If you feel that someone is violating these guidelines and that we have not taken action, please reach out to nesrine@sfbike.org.
