The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is seeking a passionate, highly motivated individual to help power our work focused on San Francisco’s diverse population of young people and families, encouraging and empowering them to incorporate active and sustainable transportation into their lives. This full-time Program Coordinator position is currently temporary and funded through November 2022, with possible ongoing employment pending continuation of funding.
You will have the opportunity to help transform the lives of countless SF families, working with our dynamic staff of over 20 and an active membership of thousands of passionate people who bike. The SF Bicycle Coalition works in collaboration with several city and regional agencies to promote biking and other sustainable transportation modes to get to school, through the SF Safe Routes to School Partnership and other programs. The Program Coordinator will help identify barriers facing families from diverse backgrounds across the city. Based on this information, you will create and execute strategies to reach students and school communities at SF’s public schools. You will also organize community events open to all families to deepen the impact of school-related outreach and encouragement activities.
You will support our organization’s programmatic work to align with our core values of Transportation Justice, Sustainability, People Power, and Joy, as articulated in our 2018-2022 Strategic Plan. This position will collaborate with a dynamic Programs Department consisting of five full-time and three part-time staff, focused on youth and family biking, adult bicycle education, Bike It Forward, and valet bicycle parking.

Primary responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to:
- Working directly with parents, teachers, and school administrators to develop and implement locally appropriate, culturally competent outreach and education campaigns and projects that encourage and promote walking, biking, and transit to school and that develop a school-wide culture of sustainable transportation;
- Collaborating with city agencies and non-profit partners to develop strategies for and execute the deliverables of the SF Safe Routes to School program;
- Co-leading the organization of the annual Bike & Roll to School Week, engaging at least 100 schools annually;
- Organizing and/or leading outreach, trainings, and events for families and youth of many backgrounds to encourage sustainable transportation;
- Coordinating with Youth and Family Biking programs across the region that are offering encouragement and education events;
- Helping identify and secure additional opportunities and resources to encourage family biking;
- Working collaboratively with fellow Program Team members to ensure that efforts in Adult Bicycle Education, Bike It Forward, and other programs complement and augment each other;
- Further developing the SF Bicycle Coalition’s family biking program offerings, to reach more families more effectively;
- Assisting our members and the general public with family-oriented questions and other inquiries;
- Executing contract administration related to the program.

- Bilingual language skills in English and another language, especially Spanish and Cantonese;
- Flexibility and adaptability to evolving responsibilities;
- Skill and experience with Google apps, MS Office, and other common office applications;
- Strong familiarity with walking and biking education curriculum for parents and children;
- Experience with Transportation Demand Management (TDM), behavior-change work, or community-based social marketing;
- Experience with data analytics and Salesforce (or other CRM);
- Experience working in or with a school system, preferably within the SFUSD;
- Experience managing grant and/or contract deliverables;
- Experience managing project budgets;
- Flexibility to work mornings, nights and weekends; this position may require approximately three to seven early mornings per month and one to three weekend days monthly.
Salary and Benefits: This is a temporary full-time position that will run through November 2022 (with the possibility of ongoing employment, pending funding confirmation and based on performance). The full-time equivalent (FTE) annual salary for this exempt position is $58,500-$60,000 depending on depth of experience. Full-time benefits include excellent medical, vision and dental insurance, paid holidays, 10 days paid sick leave (pro-rated) and 3 weeks PTO (pro-rated) annually, 401k plan with match, a telecommuting stipend, and flexible and remote work arrangement policies.
Reports to: Director of Programs
Location: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, employees have been working remotely. As restrictions are lifted and a return to office and community work is increasingly possible, staff and their supervisors will work together to determine the appropriate work arrangement based on the nature of the individual’s role, and in alignment with organizational policies and departmental needs and activities. We strive to be as flexible and fair as possible while ensuring in-person accessibility as needed to interface with our volunteers, membership, community, and each other.
