Bike Ride: Try Biking on City Streets

Sunday, April 23, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

This ride is intended for people who already know how to ride a bike but are new to biking on city streets.

If you have contemplated commuting to work by bike but need some help and encouragement to try it for the first time, a group ride is the perfect way to start! Join other beginner riders on this relaxed-pace ride where no one will be left behind.

We will take you on frequently biked routes to get to and from downtown. We will start at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, then pedal through the Panhandle to Page street all the way to Market Street. Then we’ll make a loop via Polk Street to Grove. We’ll pedal a couple blocks on the brand new 8th Street bike lane. Then we’ll head to Valencia and show you the McCoppin “shortcut” to get back to Market Street. Lastly we’ll ride the infamous “Wiggle” to return to the California Academy of Sciences. Click here for the full route. If you’d like to join for just part of the ride, email susan@sfbike.org for details on where and when to meet up.

Once you’ve done this practice ride, hopefully you will feel confident enough to try biking to work more regularly and especially on Thursday, May 11 – Bike to Work Day

If this ride sounds too easy for you, then encourage a friend who knows how to bike but is new to riding on city streets to attend.
