SMART CITY CYCLING 2: MANEUVERING
Sunday, October 6 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Event Navigation
This on-bike class will focus on the bike-handling skills you need to safely and confidently ride in city traffic. The class will be conducted in a car-free space and is the second in the Smart City Cycling sequence. Smart City Cycling 1: Classroom is a prerequisite for this course. If you have not already taken it, you can register here.
Topics covered include:
- How to ride with one hand in order to signal
- Scanning over one’s shoulder while maintaining a straight line
- Crash-avoidance maneuvers
This class will prepare you for Smart City Cycling 3: Road Practice, in which you will take your new skills onto the streets.
All participants MUST either bring a bike or rent a bike in advance. Bikes will not be available for rental at the class. If you don’t have a bicycle, we will send information on how to rent one for the class. If the cost of a bike rental (about $45) presents a financial challenge for you, please email qmaxwell@sfbike.org or call at (415) 323-0597, as we have some limited funding available for rentals.
Please contact Qamuuqin Maxwell (qmaxwell@sfbike.org or 415-323-0597) with any questions about this program.
This class is part of the SFMTA’s Bicycle Safety Education program, presented in partnership with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. It is made possible by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority through a grant of Proposition K Local Transportation Sales Tax Funds.
