Earlier this year, we announced that we were partnering with the City on a Large Vehicle Driver Training Program. We are now thrilled to announce that the program has launched!
Between now and the end of September, your SF Bicycle Coalition and our Vision Zero partner Walk SF are reaching out to companies that employ large vehicle drivers to ask them to take a pledge to show the free driver training video to all their drivers and help make San Francisco’s streets safer for all road users. Companies that train their drivers by late September will be invited to speak at a press event announcing the program.

The SFMTA’s Large Vehicle Driver Training Program is an integral part of the City’s work to achieve Vision Zero, the goal to eliminate all traffic fatalities and serious injuries in San Francisco by 2024. Large vehicle drivers are a key element in the equation – according to the SFMTA, collisions between large vehicles are eight times more likely to result in death to people walking or biking than collisions involving passenger vehicles.1
Companies are always invited to take their training to the next level and request a one-hour custom training as a part of the SF Bicycle Coalition’s Professional Driver Training Program, which trains all new and renewing taxi drivers and has trained drivers from Recology, Genentech, Google and AutoReturn.
Get your company involved! Do you work at a company that employs large vehicle drivers in San Francisco? Tell your company to take the pledge to commit to training your drivers and help make San Francisco’s streets safer for all road users.
