BART Bike Theft Prevention program

We are proud to be partnering with Bike East Bay and BART on their Bike Theft Prevention program. Bike theft is a significant problem in San Francisco and the entire BART network, and we’re proud to be teaming up with these two organizations to help people do a better job securing their bikes at transit stations.

The goals of this program are to educate people on the best equipment and locking techniques, hand out free theft prevention materials, and deter bicycle theft by raising awareness. The SF Bicycle Coalition will be partnering with BART at stations located in San Francisco, and our East Bay partners will be working at the BART stations in their region. At each event, we will be handing out vouchers for discounted U-locks valued at $40 or more at participating bike shops and signing people up for free BikeLink keycards preloaded with $5 of credit. In addition, we will be encouraging people to participate in the voluntary bicycle registration program SAFE Bikes (which we recommend everyone do, regardless of whether or not you use BART!). This program is managed by SAFE, Safety Awareness for Everyone, and keeps your bike serial number and identifying information on file to help your bicycle be returned to you if it is stolen and then recovered by the police.

We look forward to seeing you at our local BART stations in the coming weeks!
