March is Women’s History Month!

We’re absolutely thrilled that so many women have shown interest and participated in Women Bike SF events since we launched the program in January 2015. Now, in celebration of Women’s History Month, we’ve packed March with even more events. We hope you can join us!

Women Bike SF is the SF Bicycle Coalition’s initiative to support women, trans* and female-identifying individuals who bike and to encourage more to join in and experience the joys of biking. We’ve been seeing movements across the country addressing the gender gap in biking, and our members have been craving a safe and supportive space for women who bike or want to bike. We launched San Francisco’s own version of Women Bike SF in January 2015, and since then dozens of women have attended our coffee chats, happy hours and, most recently, our focus group sessions.

We’ve got plenty of upcoming events, but here are a few highlights:

  1. Stanford student project: We’ve been working with Mia, Katie and Ana Sophia, our awesome team of Stanford students, to do research and conduct surveys that inform our efforts. They will be presenting their findings at Stanford University on March 11, so be sure to RSVP if you’d like to attend!
  2. Bike Shop Ride: This is a great chance to get to know some of the mechanics who keep bike riders in the city rolling and to also gain some skills and confidence to fix flat tires. Participants will also be collecting items at each shop for a flat kit, with saddle bags donated by Timbuk2! This will be a casual ride; we recommend wearing comfortable clothing and bringing a city bike! Be sure to RSVP here because space is limited.
  3. Intro to Urban Bicycling Workshop for Women, Trans* and Female-Identified Individuals: Has it been a long time since you’ve been on a bike or are you new to riding in the city? Come learn the basics of bicycling at our Intro to Urban Bicycling Workshop. This course is a great introduction for women, trans* and female-identified people who are considering bicycling or are looking to brush up on skills.

Lastly, we’ve heard this question a few times: Can I be a part of Women Bike SF if I’m not a woman?

We need all the allies and supporters for Women Bike SF to really get rolling, so yes! However, we do have some women/trans*/female-identifying-only events, so do please check the calendar before attending. Unless it’s specifically stated, though, all are welcome at our events. We have lots of opportunities for allies and supporters to come celebrate, support and encourage our Women Bike SF program, and we’d love to see you there.

Become a member and you'll improve your commute and get discounts at shops across the city.
