San Francisco summer has finally arrived, and the warm days are perfect for exploring the city on bike. If you’ve been thinking about biking with your family, now’s the perfect time to start! This month, we’ve packed the calendar with fun youth and family biking events to get you and your family “rolling.”
From family biking classes to family bike fun nights to the biggest event of them all — Walk and Roll to School Day — October is chock-full of family biking fun! Here’s the round-up of events:
Family Biking Workshop: Get your bike checked out, learn the rules of the road, and practice riding together as a “bike train.” Parents and children with some riding ability recommended, family bikes welcome. Sign up today!
International Walk and Roll To School Day: Join students across the world in this collective walk-to-school with a purpose – to promote health, safety, physical activity and concern for the environment. This event kicks off the 2014-2015 SF Safe Routes to School (SF-SRTS) Program run in partnership with Walk SF and SF Bicycle Coalition. See if your school is participating and check out resources for ongoing programs at sfsaferoutestoschool.org
This year, we’re aiming for ninety schools and 15,000 students participating across the city. See if your school has signed up, and get resources to participate in the fun event. Bikes, scooters and other rollers, or simply your own two feet, are welcome. And yes, you can bike as a family!
Biking with Your Baby or Toddler: Talk to Family Biking experts and other parents about biking while pregnant or with your baby or toddler, and see equipment options up close. Sign up today!
Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights Kickoff at Mountain Lake Park in the Presidio. Bike rodeo, games and fun.
Sunday Streets: Come ride and play on the streets of the Mission from 11AM-4PM.
Bicycle Safety Fair at Sunset Elementary: Featuring the SF Bicycle Coalition, YBike rodeo, bike repair and tuneups by Bay Area Bikemobile, Recology, DPW, SF Safe Routes To School and more. The program is hosted by Assembly-member Phil Ting. For more info, contact Rob Chua at 415/557-2312 or email@example.com.
