Photography Intern

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition works to promote bicycling for everyday transportation. Our member-based grassroots organization is considered one of the largest, most active and effective advocacy groups in the country. For more than 45 years, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition has a proven track record of winning better bicycling improvements.

Position description

The Photography Intern will gain experience in photography, photo editing, and asset management and organization. This internship will work creatively to identify and create beautiful photographs to further our online presence and our mission of promoting the bicycle for everyday transportation. The Photography Intern will provide direct support to the Marketing Communications Associate.

What you’ll learn:

  • Photograph portraits, events, and stock photos
  • Edit photos using Adobe Creative Suite software
  • Coordinate, organize, and plan photoshoots
  • Audit and organize photo asset structure and systems
  • Assist with video projects as needed

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Flexible work hours to attend occasional evening and weekend events
  • Availability on May 14 for Bike to Work Day
  • Excellent self-organization, time-management, and communication skills
  • Proficient experience using a DSLR
  • Familiarity with photo editing using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom

Required skills or abilities:

  • Knowledge of Canon DSLRs
  • Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience with or desire to learn video editing
  • Familiarity with managing large photoshoots such as portrait sessions and large-scale events

Desired skills or abilities:

  • Strong commitment to the mission of the SF Bicycle Coalition
  • Experience with photography and/or videography, or a strong desire to learn
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, (e.g., Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, After Effects)
  • Familiarity with AP Style

Required dates for this internship include:

  • January 2020 – May 2020
  • Intern Orientation Day – January 21, 2020
  • Bike to Work Day – May 14, 2020

This unpaid internship offers a flexible schedule with 10-15 hours/week minimum commitment. This is largely a Monday through Friday internship, with occasional planned weekends and evenings to photograph events. Interns are expected to make a three-month commitment, which may be extended. While the position is not paid, we are happy to work with any academic requirements the intern may have to help them earn course credit for their efforts.
